Rail Gun
3D printed heavy armament prop - July 2026
A 1:1 full-scale replica of the Rail Gun found in the Metal Gear Solid Series, engineered for easy disassembly and transport, with dynamic linear actuation and embedded audio playback.
Modular Frame
A load-bearing internal skeleton was designed using 2020 and 2040 V-slot aluminium extrusions. The frame allows the 1.8m long model to break down into compact sections for transport, and reassembled on-site.
Linear Actuation
A belt-driven linear slide was made using a NEMA 17 stepper motor, GT2 belt and V wheels, similar to those found in 3D printers—achieving a smooth, rapid actuation of the front barrel.
Embedded Audio
A dual-trigger audio system was developed using microswitches and programmable microcontrollers to synchronise barrel actuation and weapon fire with game-accurate audio effects.
