Nimbus

Mesh generation suite. Uses point cloud data and Time-of-Flight sensors - July 2026

3D point cloud of a textured surface against a dark background. White straw hat and Rubik's cube on a quilted surface.

An investigation into generating high-fidelity 3D surface meshes from raw spatial depth data using inexpensive sensors. The project evaluated driver-level depth packet decoding, spatial point cloud generation, and sensor limitation bounds across different Time-of-Flight (ToF) hardware architectures.

A packet-decoding pipeline was built using libfreenext2 to interface with an Xbox Kinect V2 sensor, decoding raw IR depth streams (from its 512×424 sensor) into calibrated point clouds.

To resolve close-range and minimum size limitations, a close-range Arducam ToF sensor module was selected for small models and props, while reserving the Kinect sensor for human-scale and room-scale scans.

Animatronic Metal Gear MkII

To compliment the Rail Gun from Metal Gear Solid 4, an animatronic self-balancing robot modelled after the MkII from the same game is being developed.

This robot can balance on two stepper-driven wheels, and will move forwards, backwards and rotate on command.

The robot consists of:

3D Artwork

A range of digital artwork developed for commercial print-on-demand retailers has been created. Designs were modelled, rigged, posed and rendered in Blender, and a wide range of products have been purchased by customers around the globe, including shirts, stickers, posters and fridge magnets.

Unity 3D Projects

Multiple video games and 3D experiences have been developed using Unity for PC and Steam Deck. A kickstarter for an upcoming commercial release is available here.
